In Minnesota College Athletic Conference action for the week of April 10-16, Itasca Community College catcher Tanner Shepard has earned Player-of-the-Week honors, while Mesabi Range College ace Teo Rangel took home Pitcher-of-the-Week headlines.
Shepard appeared in five of the six Itasca games over the course of the week, going a cumulative 8-for-14, highlighted by a 3-for-3 performance against Vermilion on April 14. In addition to putting the ball in play, Shepard drew three walks and tallied four RBI's while helping lead the Vikings to six consecutive wins. Itasca sits at 16-14 overall and 4-0 in the MCAC North.
Rangel, a right-handed sophomore from Nogales, Arizona, pitched 7.1 innings over the week, picking up the win against Hibbing CC. Rangel had a minuscule 1.23 ERA, scattering 7 hits and two walks, while striking out five batters. The Norseman pitcher limited opponents to three total runs for the week, and was efficient in using only 61 pitchers to beat HCC, 11-1.
