Spartan and Voyageur Capture Player-of-the-Week Honors

A pair of men's basketball student-athletes in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference started 2018 in grand fashion over the past week by lighting up scoreboards for the New Year. 

Chris Tungseth a forward for M State Fergus Falls and Davarius Wright both turned in impressive performances for the week ending on January 6, and have been named MCAC Northern Division and Southern Division Players-of-the-Week for their efforts.

Davarius Wright, a sophomore forward from Minneapolis who plays for Rainy River Community College,  has been tabbed as the MCAC Northern Division Player-of-the-Week in men's basketball to begin 2018. 

Wright, from Minneapolis, averaged a double-double over the weekend in a pair of victories. He shot 53% from the field, resulting in a 19.5 point per game average.  Wright also averaged 10.5 boards per outing and had three blocks in both contests. 

Rainy River will face Hibbing CC on Friday, January 12 to open up Northern Division play.

   M State Fergus Falls          

Playing on his home court against MCAC North foe Mesabi Range College,  Tungseth scored 46 points on 16-for-23 shooting, including a school-record performance of 10-for-17 from behind the 3-point line.  He also was a perfect  4-for-4 on free throws and added seven boards.  The sophomore from Fergus Falls followed up his record-setting outing with a double-double against Itasca CC (14 points / 11 rebounds). 

Tungseth and his teammates are next in action on Wednesday, January 10 when they open up MCAC Southern Division play at Ridgewater College at 7:30pm in Wilmar.
