The NJCAA Region 13 Men's and Women's Soccer Teams have been released following the conclusion of the season for teams in Region 13.
In men's soccer, Riverland Community College, which won the Region 13 Tournament, had five players named to the team, including Nelson Powell, the region's MVP. Minnesota West Community and Technical College, which finished as the region's runner-up, placed three athletes on the All-Region 13 Team, while Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Alexandria Technical and Community College each had two selections.
Nelson Powell, the Region 13 Men's Soccer MVP, helped Riverland Community College to a 9-7-1 overall record. The freshman defender from Riverland Community College, while anchoring a defense that won Region 13 and was one goal shy of qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament, scored two goals and had two assists in the 17 games he started this season.
Frank Spaeth, head men's soccer coach for Riverland Community College, earned the Region 13 Men's Soccer Coach of the Year honor. His Blue Devils finished the 9-7-1 with a Region 13 title and a spot in the NJCAA Midwest District Championship Game.
In women's soccer, Rochester Community and Technical College won the Region 13 Tournament and had six players named to the All-Region 13 Team, including MVP Becca Cook. Anoka-Ramsey Community College, which finished as the runner-up in the Region 13 Tournament, placed three athletes on the All-Region 13 Team. Alexandria Technical and Community College had two selections on the distinguished team, and North Dakota State College of Science had one.
The Region 13 Women's Soccer MVP, Becca Cook, started in 16 games for Rochester Community and Technical College and scored 30 goals while assisting on 22. She totaled 82 points this season, tops in the region. The sophomore forward scored seven game-winning goals and helped her Yellowjackets to an 11-5-1 season record.
Elliot Chapman, head women's soccer coach for Rochester Community and Technical College, earned the Region 13 Women's Soccer Coach of the Year award. In his first season with the Yellowjackets, Chapman led his team to an 11-5-1 record, an MCAC and Region 13 Championship, and a spot in the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament.
