The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports athletes of the week awards for the week of February 2-8.
Northland Community and Technical College guard Jade Reese earned the MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. In 90 minutes of court time over three games, Reese hit 64% of her shots from the field, going 21 for 33, to score 49 points. Reese also had 21 rebounds, 8 assists, 13 steals, and 2 blocks, helping her Pioneers' team pick up three more MCAC North Division wins and retain the top spot in the division.
Esron Simeon, point guard for Northland Community and Technical College, earned the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Competing in three games and running the court for 97 minutes, Simeon went 22 for 35 from the field and 6 for 11 from the three-point arc to score 63 points. He had 18 rebounds, 16 assists, and 11 steals in the Pioneers' three North Division wins this week. Simeon leads the MCAC in steals.
Ridgewater College guard Madison Norsten earned the MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Playing 35 minutes in the Warriors' one game, Norsten scored 29 points, scoring on 11 of her 20 shots from the field (55%) and hitting six of eight free throws. She also had 13 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and a block to help her Warriors' team secure another MCAC South Division win and keep them firmly in the hunt for a post-season berth.
Riverland Community College forward Tristan Coleman earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. Coleman averaged a double-double through his two games and 66 minutes of action. He scored 42 points, shooting 56% from the field (18 for 32). He also rebounded 22 balls, had four assists, two steals, and a block, while helping his Blue Devils pick up two more wins and keep them undefeated in divisional play.
There were no nominations this week for the MCAC Wrestler of the Week award.
